Thru Aug 1       Puffins Return to Haystack Rock
Each spring, puffins that have spent the last eight months floating and diving on the open seas of the Pacific Ocean return to Cannon Beach’s Haystack Rock to lay eggs and raise their chicks.Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach provides one of the Northwest’s most accessible locations to observe puffins nesting in their natural environment. The puffins are most visible and active at Haystack Rock from April through early-July. By late August, the puffin chicks will be ready to return to open seas with their parents.

Aug 7 – 9             Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament
Players and spectators enjoy the clear ocean air of one of the World’s most beautiful beaches as described by National Geographic. The beach is home to the Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament to be played for the 33nd consecutive year in August of 2014. It is the largest amateur beach volleyball tournament in the world with over 1296 teams (in 2013) playing on 100 plus courts. Divisions range from parent and child to Masters 55+, along with our Men, Women and Co-ed Open Divisions that feature current and retired AVP ranked players. Seaside Beach Volleyball is consistently the highest ranked and most visited amateur beach volleyball tournament around! Call 503-738-6391

Aug 15            The Saltmakers Return – Historical Reenactment 
Meet the members of the Lewis & Clark Salt Makers party at this historical reenactment. This is a chance for you and your family to talk and trade with members of the expedition while they are camped on the beach, tending the fires and boiling the seawater to make salt.

Aug 28 – 29        Hood to Coast
The Mother of All Relays!

Total Teams: 1,050 teams of 12 runners (min. 8)
Race Course: Hood To Coast is 199 miles long. See Course Maps for more info.

Total Participants: The 2014 event had 12,600 runners and 3,600 volunteers
Origin: HTC began in 1982 with 8 teams and has filled the team cap on the opening day of registration for the last 16 years straight!

Sept 10 – 13        Seaside Wheels ’N’ Waves Car Show
Today’s street rods are a far cry from the early hot rods that cruised the streets of America in their early days. It’s a period of time reflected in its rods, music, and fashion. Wheels and Waves presents a unique culture trip to anyone who attends. You owe it to yourself and your family to attend this event, not only for the cool but for a piece of American history. Rods, Beach, Surfing, and Music…can’t get any better than that.

Sept 12 – 13        Cottage and Garden Tour
Race the Wave is a 5K and 10K tsunami preparedness fun run and walk. Starting at 10am, racers run start along the beach, follow a scenic tsunami evacuation route through the city, and end out of the tsunami inundation zone. A one-mile free preparedness walk/roll offers another chance to practice the evacuation route. A post-race free preparedness fair features grilled hot dogs, preparedness games and giveaways, a photo booth and more. Registration is $35 and includes race timing a race t-shirt, swag bag, prizes, and shuttle service from the race finish back to the start line. Registration discounts ($5), is given to groups of ten or more and for sign-ups received before August 13. Shirts cannot be guaranteed for registrations received after September 1, 2015.

Sept 25-27          Pacific Northwest Brew Cup
The festival features Northwest beers on tap, live music, food vendors and activities for the kids. Admission is free, beer tastings require purchasing a souvenir mug ($9 each) and tokens ($1 each).

Oct 11                   Great Columbia Crossing
A unique opportunity to trek across the Astoria-Megler Bridge on foot. The 10k offers a scenic adventure on a fairly flat road with one steep incline to the peak of the bridge. It is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America.Whether you’re an experienced runner or looking for a family friendly event, the Great Columbia Crossing 10k appeals to everyone.

Oct 17                   Dog Show on the Beach
The 18th Annual Dog Show on the Beach begins after high tide. Pedigree is not the point, it’s a fun day on the beach with your pooch. Proceeds benefits the Clatsop County Animal Shelter.

Nov 6-8               Annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival
Some of the Northwest’s most successful artists will converge on Cannon Beach as the community hosts its annual fall celebration of the arts. Cannon Beach art galleries and local businesses will present special exhibits, artist demonstrations and host receptions for guest artists over the three-day festival.

Feb 26 – 28t       19th Annual Fisher Poets Gathering 
Various Locations
Expect performances from scores of fisherpoets Friday and Saturday night and lots of company. There will be writing and issues-related workshops Saturday morning along with tours of old canneries and fishing boats. There will also be a film shown Saturday afternoon at the Columbian Theater and a story circle at the Astoria event center. The Gearshack will be open for fans to enjoy a silent action, music, open mic, and dancing.

Feb 26-28           6th Annual Cannon Beach Yoga Festival
Yoga practitioners of all levels will gather for a weekend of yoga and meditation workshops with renowned instructors. Instructors and practitioners of all levels can choose from 10 hours of yoga workshops, meditation and other programs over the three day event.

May 6-8                16th Annual Spring Unveiling Arts Festival
The members of the Cannon Beach Gallery Group invite you to play along the shores of Cannon Beach and in the varied and beautiful galleries of our town. Nestled between the wild ocean and the coastal mountains Cannon Beach offers art and craft ranging from the playful to the sublime. On May 6, 7 & 8, each gallery will spotlight new work by their chosen artists. Unveiling demos and receptions take place all weekend long, making this event an unparalleled experience for the art lover.

June 18 – 19       35th Annual Northwest Garlic Festival
Celebrate the passion for this exalted bulb with the faithful throngs who make their annual pilgrimage to the NW Garlic Festival which is held each June in the seaside community of Ocean Park, Washington, located on the Long Beach Peninsula. This Garlic Olympics of Gastronomy is not held for the region’s Garlic growing ability. This Festival was born out of love of great, Garlic laden cuisine!

About Us

Our venture as lodging business owners started in June of 2001. We left a corporate job in Hillsboro, OR and moved our young family of three small children to the coast to follow our dreams. We saw a perfect opportunity and purchased the Blue Gull Inn in Cannon Beach.
